Predictable endodontic success. The apical control zone.

چکیده
October 2003 ORAL HEALTH 75 T he ‘Apical Control Zone’ is a matrix-like region created in the apical third of the root canal space. The zone demonstrates an exaggerated taper from the clinician defined apical constriction whether this is spatially a linear or point determination. This enhanced taper in the apical control zone provides resistance form against the condensation pressures of obturation and acts to prevent the extrusion of the filling material during obturation.

Accidental Contamination with Oil during Endodontic Surgery
The modern surgical endodontic treatment is a safe and predictable procedure with high success rate. However, several factors can retard or impede the proper healing process. Use of a high speed handpiece during hard tissues management (osteotomy and apical resection) can potentially be one of these factors. Formation of metallic debris from the surgical diamond burs, production of necrotic loc...
متن کاملEndodontic Management of Open Apex Teeth Using Lyophilized Collagen Sponge and MTA Cement: Report of Two Cases
Teeth with open apices, such as in immature teeth or those with apical root resorption are clinical cases with difficult immediate resolution. With the use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in dentistry, it was possible to optimize the treatment time of these cases by immediate placement of apical plug and the root canal filling. However, some negative effects can occur if MTA is extruded bey...
متن کاملThe Role of Root Canal Preparation on Apical Geometry: A Review of the Literature
The amounts of apical enlargement have been a controversial issue for a long time. The enlargement of the apical part of the canal may severely impact the endodontic prognosis. Enlargement of the apical portion to a larger size may negatively affect the ability to control the filling material during root canal obturation. In addition, an open-apex increases the risk for overfilling which has be...
متن کاملThe Impact of Apical Patency in the Success of Endodontic Treatment of Necrotic Teeth with Apical Periodontitis: A Brief Review
Accumulation of soft tissue or dentinal remnants in the apical region is a common event that can cause blockage of root canals. This event can be avoided if apical patency is performed during the root canal shaping procedures. However, there is no consensus on the role of apical patency in relation to the success of endodontic treatment of necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis. Therefore, th...
متن کاملPrevalence of apical periodontitis in root canal-treated teeth from an urban French population: influence of the quality of root canal fillings and coronal restorations.
This cross-sectional study determined the prevalence of apical periodontitis in 1035 root canal-treated teeth from adult French patients and investigated the influence of the quality of canal fillings and coronal restorations on the periradicular status. Periapical radiographs were used for analyses, and teeth were classified as healthy or diseased according to the periapical index scoring syst...
